RECAP Thanks to the wonderful volunteers, guests, and donors, the event sold out in 11 days, and we raised $13,365 in one night to support VOA Utah and The Road Home in opening their overflow beds for those experiencing homelessness, addiction, and/ or mental illness.
DID YOU KNOW? VOA Utah provides shelter and three meals to 220 women (at Geraldine E. King and the Center for Women & Children), 60 youth (at the Youth Homeless Resource Center, and 83 men (at the Men's Detox Center) every night*. The Road Home provided emergency shelter to 540 families in 2021*, and yet this year there are still about 1,800** unsheltered individuals that are facing winter living outside this year. The VOA has partnered with the road home to open 340*** additional beds to shelter folks in the winter months.
Your ticket (or donation of $25) helps the VOA (Volunteers of America Utah) serve the most vulnerable in our community: $25 = 10 meals served at Geraldine E. King, Youth Homeless Resource Center, or Center for Women & Children $25 = 2 nights for one person at a winter overflow shelter* $25 = Survival Necessities for someone living unsheltered in winter, through the VOA Homeless Outreach Program $25 = helps fund valuable resources such as mental health services, effective addiction recovery, detox centers, and more to those experiencing homelessness, addiction, and/ or mental illness in Utah.
*voaut.org and Road Home Annual Report 2021 **Source: Utah Stories 2022, Homeless in Utah ***As more people experiencing homelessness seek shelter during cold weather, additional beds are needed, to help those individuals during the 2022-23 winter season. The VOA has partnered with the Road Home to open up 340 overflow beds across five locations, plus additional hotel/ motel rooms for families living unsheltered. Additionally, all locations will have on-site security. Millcreek City, Salt Lake City, and South Salt Lake City received funding through Utah's Office of Homeless Services to fund public safety and operational support to mitigate community impact.
